This is not a joke. Multiple news outlets are reporting that Disney has bought LucasFilm, and will release Star Wars Episode 7 in 2015.
Will it star Luke? Anakin? Jar-Jar? We have no clue. All we know is THAT SHIT CRAY.
On top of that? Disney “plans to release a new Star Wars feature film every two or three years for the foreseeable future.” George Lucas won’t be writing or directing, though he’ll serve as “creative consultant” on the film.
As part of this deal, Disney also gets LucasArts, the game studio responsible for many games in the Star Wars and Indiana Jones franchises, among others. (Including the beloved classic Monkey Island adventure games.)
Disney said all LucasArts projects will proceed as normal—”For the time being all projects are business as usual. We are excited about all the possibilities that Disney brings.”
This includes the much-hyped Star Wars 1313, announced earlier this year.
In a conference call this afternoon, Disney’s Bob Iger said they will be focusing on social and mobile games and will likely license their IPs for console gaming—meaning you’ll see other studios making Star Wars games (as has happened a few times already, like with BioWare’s MMORPG The Old Republic).
